Hello

I have a big problem! My neighbour asked me to look at his computer and stop it asking him for a user name everytime he turned his computer on. i went into users in control panel and pressed on his user name and pressed delete. we restarted and it asked for a log in name. obviously we didn't have one as it wouldn't let us use the one we deleted (for obvious reasons)and we can't get past it. what can i do. i don't have astart up disk so i can't reformat as i can't get an A:/ prompt.

Sarah,

What you deleted was his account that he was using to login, correct?

Just use the Administrator account to login. First, try no password. If that doesn't work, ask your neighbor. If he set up the machine himself (bought it new with 2K already loaded), he would have set the password for the Administrator account. If that works, you're good to go.

Then, recreate his user account.

I guess you've learned that the way to auto-login is NOT to delete the username... There are several ways to do this. If your neighbor is the only one using the machine (at home,) it's not a bad idea to use auto-login. However, if there are other people in the household (especially children), I wouldn't recommend auto-login.

Please post back.
