I'm hopefully going to open a small consulting business in the next 6 months...nothing really big, just servicing my local area.
A friend of mine made mention in passage of possibly becoming an "OEM authorized support person"...that is, someone who replaces, say, the hard drive in your Dell when it goes out with a Dell-supplied, or Dell-Authorized replacement.
Does anyone know if OEMs have such services? And, if so, any ideas how to get in touch with them to find out what's required to get this going?

Yes they have authorized support people. They're generally the ones that go and take care of warranty service calls and then get to bill the manufacturer. I'd suggest just calling or e-mailing them and asking....

There are companies that do this for the manufacturers. One such is Advantage Innovation. You may be working on compaq's, HP's or whatever. http://www.advantageinnovation.com/ Altho I think they were acquired by another company; Barrister.
