Comment:

I just installed Backup Exec on the server. Whenever I try to do anything I get an error "Invalid Physical Volume Library Argument". It doesnt matter what I do, I can try and do an inventory, I can try a quick erase, I can even try a backup. I get the error no matter what I try. Any help would be aprreciated. Veritas will give me NO help on there site or from there phone support unless I pay an arm and a leg. I have already installed all available software updates and driver updates.

Thanks in advance!
Chris

Have you updated the firmware on the backup drive? If not, I'd do that too.

I'm not as familiar with Backup Exec as I am Brightstore Arcserv (Computer Associates) but I'd say if all the updates (including the firmware) don't fix things, I'd uninstall the software and reboot and try installing again after the firmware update. Also, check with the drive manufacturer for any known issues. You could have a hardware incompatibility.

Hi Again,

I just solved the problems now, I spoke with a second technician at Veritas Support who just knew what to do.
Open BE,
click on Devices tab,
right click on your drive,
Remove the "checkmark" from Enabled,
Right click on your device again,
select delete,
stop all BE services directly from BE,
download the newest Veritas driver from
******
http://www.veritas.com/be_support/www?schDType=Driver&schDVer=ALL&cmd=docPages&product_code=10&pageid=1&sort=&docOp=search&sOrder=null&cat=null&scat=null&can=null&scn=null
******
Restart all BE services directly from BE,
check under devices tab the drive is found,
Run a Inventory if that one goes ok, try to run a backup job.

It worked for me, so Paul at Veritas just saved my weekend :o)
