Comment: Trying to backup my drive to another internal hard disk. Getting error stating backup media full. Using W2K backup utility wizard. Have a 40G hard drive for backup purposes and have 36G free on hard disk. Have about 5G to backup. Why would it say it is full when it isn't? How can I get around it? It will backup about 3/4 of the data and says that it is full. Any reponses would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Samantha

Reply: (edit)The problem might be that the drive you are trying to backup to is formatted in FAT32. FAT32 file system cannot support files larger than 4GB, so if you are trying to backup 5GB of data, that could be why it is failing at about 3/4 of the way in. (Or maybe it's really 4/5 of the way in...) Convert or re-format the file system on the backup drive to NTFS, which can support much larger file sizes and try again.

Reply: (edit)The person who installed the drive said that they didn't install an operating system on the backup drive. Can I still convert it to NTFS? Will I still be able to access it even if the primary drive is FAT32 or will the original drive need to be converted to NTFS as well? Thanks for your help! Samantha

Reply: (edit)You do not need an operating system on the backup drive for the main system to backup to it. And yes, you may convert and use the backup drive with an NTFS file system (redundant, I know), even if the main system is FAT32, and vice versa.
