I am using the free AVG anti virus program and it is not recognizing an email attached virus file. I get these virus files very often from this one source and just delete them without opening.
What i would like to know is why avg does not recognize these attached virus? I have all items in the email section checked.
Thanks

Not such a silly question - how do you know it is a virus. Do you have another anti virus program running?
This may affect AVG's ability to do the job.If it is a virus file, what virus is it? And have you informed AVG about this issue?
(Would be the best thing to do as they develop the software and virus def's).I get about 1 - 2 Klez attachments a day and whether I use OE5 or Eudora Pro - AVG always picks it up.
Good Luck . . .
:o)

ctcnetwork,
I thought it was an unnecessary question since I said the attachment was a virus.
Avg will pick it up if I try to open it. It use to pick it up when I just click on the mail item (not the attachment) but does not do that now. No other virus program running. It is always the Klez virus and it comes from one server.
I email this person quite often and it comes from several of her email addressee's with her server's name in the body of the message. I have ask her to run a virus check on her computer but I don't think she knows how, even when I tell her :< so I just live with it by deleting the file.
From what I have learned avg does not have support for free avg. Do you know where to go to ask them?
By the way, I am using OE ver 6 and Win 2000 Pro.

Ahhh....
Now I see where you are coming from. . . !
Ok, The mail you receive has 2 attatchments, Yes? 1 and exe or pdf of somesort, and the other is a html file.
If you try to open or save the attachments AVG will warn you and stop the action. You then have to save the attachments again before they get saved.
This is how it works with me, in OE 5, If I remember, with Eudora Pro AVG will give me a warning before this.
Also for your information Klez will spoof mail addresses and server details, so it could be that your friend doesn't have a virus!
If you open up the AVG program you are able to send them a technical question. They will sell you a years support :o) but if the information conserns the non working of the program or a new virus file they would surely be happy to hear information.
Hope this helps some.
Good Luck . . .
:o)

You said you get these virus through email from the same source.Have you tried blocking the email address instead of downloading virus onto your pc for avg to scan?.Its better to prevent then to cure.
