I'm having problem to get the TV-tuner working under windows 2000. Everything else seems to work, but when I start TV program, the banner pops up and then the system freezes -- Ctrl-Alt-Del doesn't work and have to hard-reboot.
I have installed all the updates there are from both Microsoft and ATI (including DirectX8.0a/Video Cap for DirectX8.0, latest ATI display driver for Win2000 and MMC 7.1). And I've read with amusement all the past messages about related problems here on this message board, and none seem to address the same problem I'm having.
Any new tips?
Thanks in advance.
J.R.

I have the same problem. Tech support at ATI insists that the multi-media drivers work for Win2k, but I have tried everything short of the magic driver dance.
I would love to here if anyone else is having this problem. I will cut&paste the posts and send them to ATI.
I bought this card so I can record bits of TV....blah!

I too am having the exact same problem. Can't get DVD's to play either. ATI insists that it is not their hardware or software and that I should contact Microsoft. I get a "This player cannot play discs from this region. Trust me, everything is set up correctly", ATI just dropped the ball me with me and said to get lost. Also, now when I try to run UT, it locks while using Direct 3D. This never used to happen with the same system before upgradeing from 98se.

Indeed, I have dual boot on my computer -- I'm glad I did that -- and everything works fine under Windows 98SE.
BTW, I did some more research and found some information loosely related to the problem, such as someone suggesting ACPI might not be handling the IRQ properly. I tried changing BIOS PnP option (yes/no), as well as APM in win2k without luck. I'm wondering if someone familiar with (say) Visual Studio debugger could look at the execution of the TV program and see exactly where it caused the hang.

Had the sam problem,
I never got it to work with Creative DXR3 card installed
after i removed it physically I also had some problems with SBlive drivers
Here are some notes i made for myself:ATI must be installed BEFORE SBLive,
try using the drivers from win200 CD
then istall Multimedia only from ATI

I have ATI All-In-Wonder pro 128 and SB Live. I also have the lock up problem with Win 2k. When my system locks-up, the video and sound continue but the keyboard, mouse and other applications stop working. I didn't have this problem with Win ME. I also tried all of ATI's recommendations, but they do not work. I have another problem -- everytime I launch the TV application, I have to go through the initialization wizard even though it completes successfully. I think the problem has to do with IRQ assignments. I noticed IRQ 11 is assigned to ATI video, SB Live, USB controller, and my Netgear ethernet card. Anyone know I to get the video card assigned to IRQ 9?

not only does ATI's tv player lock my system, so does winDVR - another player. i do not have a sblive, i have an sb16 - i do have an etherexpress 100 and someone mentioned that could possibly be a problem. I have always failed to get a good (3d supporting) aiw128 driver working with tv of any kind. it pisses me off, and ati has not been able to help me since I bought the card when it first came out. If anyone knows anything, please email me. I would really appreciate it.

I just purchased the ATI All-In-Wonder 128 Pro. I just installed Windows 2000 and am having the same problem. Since I just bought the card, I guess I can return it.
I did notice something with DirectX. I have DirectX 8.0 (4.08.00.0400) installed. When I run dxdiag.exe and go to the display tab and test AGP Texturing, the system locks up. Does anyone know if it could actually be a problem with DirectX? I see that there is a beta release for Version 9 available. I may try that.

My motherboard is a PC-Chips M729. This motherboard has the ALi 1621 chipset. On ALi's website, they mention this problem and have drivers listed, which should fix the problem.
I loaded the drivers, but no luck. The page is at http://www.ali.com.tw/eng/support/drivers/north_agp_driver.htm.
Hope this helps someone. I will most likely return this card while I can.
PS: DirectX 9 beta - You have to put in a request for beta testing. It will take 6+ weeks before you know if you are selected.

Oh yes, this lock up has been a problem for me as well (on a Gateway Destination system). A reboot solves the problem sometimes. Also, no one but the administrator can run any of the multimedia components. ATI says it ain't their problem (surprise!) and have tended to just ignore any of the latest emails I've sent. As much as I hate to say it, looks like I will have to drop back to Win98 to get the darned thing working again.

Ditto on most of the comments above. My system is:
- AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1.2ghz
- 512mb RAM
- ATI Radeon 64mb DDR VIVO
- Creative Labs Soundblaster X-Gamer
- Two 40gb hard drives
- Some generic DVD player
- Lite-On CDRW
- Windows 2000 with SR-2 and all "Critical Updates" installed
- DirectX 8.1 with VidCap patch
- ATI MMC 7.1
- Most current "recommended" driver from ATI (5.13.1.3276)The Problem
-----------
Anything I try to start from the MMC (Video In, File Player, whatever) results in a total system lockup. The splash screen appears with the name of the application (e.g. "Video In 7.1") and then everything freezes. Ctrl-Alt-Del will not work (which is strange for Windows 2K, as usually it DOES manage to revive itself... but not with this problem). Only option is to do a hardware reset. The funny thing is ("strange" funny, not "ha ha" funny... at least not for me) is that at some point before I did a lot of software upgrading, it actually DID work. This is before I upgraded to DirectX 8, before upgrading to SR-2 of Windows 2K (which actually seemed to cause more problems than it fixed), before I upgraded to MMC 7.1, and before I upgraded to the new drivers. Because I upgraded so much (after I got a broadband connection and could download the files without it taking all night) I now cannot tell WHICH of the upgrades may have affected it.
Like Steven above, I specifically bought the card for it's VIVO capabilities, primarily to record video clips to the hard drive (which is also the reason for having the two 40gb drives.) Now that I've "upgraded"... and from looking at all the previous posts and the hundreds of similar problems I see as results to my search engine queries, this is a VERY common problem that particularly seems to affect ATI/AMD/Win2K users. I'm surprised AMD has such a laissez faire attitude about it, but these gripes are starting to feed into some of the reviews. Even if it's not "their fault" you would think they would want to help their customers use their cards, because in the end, it IS THE ATI CARDS that are causing the problem to surface, even if not the cause of it directly. It's sort of like selling a certain type of food that gives certain types of people heart attacks. You don't just shrug your shoulders and say it isn't your problem, it's a defect in the person. You would WARN these certain people that they shouldn't eat it, like those people that can't eat nuts or go into shock. ATI should say (because no doubt they probably KNOW what's going on by now) that if you have an AMD chip with Windows 2000, the card MAY NOT WORK. At least we could then make the decision.
OK, I'm off my soap box now. If anyone has any fixes, please let me know by sending me an email to xtelvis@ntlworld.com but remove the x from the email address. Thanks for listening.

Oops, in my previous post I meant to suggest "ATI has a laissez faire attitude" not AMD. Apologies to AMD.
Terry

I also have the same problem but I noticed if I uninstall the software and drivers and reinstall them I can run the TV Tuner until I reboot. I'm trying to connect a camera and also having problems veiwing the svideo and/or composite output of the camera, that is of course until I reboot then I'm done.
Did anyone get this product to work in Win 2000?Thanks

Me too.
I am running XP.
The card works amazing on my 1.4 athlon XP with the **win2k** driver and 7.1 mmc (on disk) using on board sound.
I get the lock on my 400 k6-2 running XP. I want to use as a dvd player / capture box.
here IS something new here, I get the lock again using adobe premiere 5.5 with ati codec for capture. at the lock I did breifly see half of a TV channel on the screen.
I have sound blaster live in that box too. I will try to ditch that and see what happens.
Am I willing to try it in different slots?
I am running out of patience I admit.
Otherwise very cool card.

I have the same issue, AIW 128 pro dual boot WinME and WinXP. WInME & AIW 128 pro work great, but WInXP freezes evey time I try to load TV. I have tried every combo of drivers and MMC with no success. ATI's site shows new drivers on the way, but we all know how long that can take......
Anybdy tried stripping pc to bare bones and running XP/2000 with noth'n but the AIW 128 pro?

nope, sorry to keep taking up more space here. soooooo anoying.
one day maybe we will figure it out. I didnt fresh install xp but the card is all that is in there. It's weird, the 2000 driver works great on my athlon but on the k6-2 the rage theatre device wont start. then the hang comes after installing the XP driver.

I am having the exact same problem. However, I'm running on WinME. I also have a SoundBlaster Live card (+MP3 to be exact). Whenever I start the DVD player or open a media file to watch, it would play the sounds for the first few seconds (but no video) and then everything would lock up!... strange! I have the newest drivers for my ATI All-in-wonder 128 Pro and the latest ATI multimedia software including DVD player. Everything was fine when I had Win98. It's either WinME, ATI, or Creative Labs! Even when I use the DVD player that came with Win ME, it would still lock up.

UPDATE!!! It works fine now! Here's what I did. I uninstalled the newest driver for my ATI video card (Win ME 4.13.7192) and even the multimedia center and dvd player. I didn't do anything to my SB Live. After the reboot, I installed the driver and multimedia software for my ATI card from the INSTALLATION CD THAT CAME WITH THE CARD!!!!. The display driver on the cd was version 4.13.7978 (cd # 107). I may be wrong, but I don't think that the newest drivers from ATI has AGP Gart support or something because the description for my card changed back to "All-In-Wonder 128 Pro Ultra AGP" under the Device Manager section in the Systems control panel applet. I believe that the card was called something else when I had the latest driver installed. Anyway, the DirectX version on my computer is still version 8.1. Good luck!

I love this card (ATI all in wonder pro 128) I just can't get the tv player to work for me in win2k. It works fine in win 98. Is there anyone who has gotten it to work in win2k

I too have my Win 2k locking up tight whenever i try to use the TV tuner. I can't get past the initialization wizard. Fortunately, I have a dual boot with Win98, and the tuner works fine there. My system is an AMD 950, 256 DDR, with an Nvidia Geforce2; nothing unusual..
However, I DID notice that the release notes for Multimedia Centre 7.1 on the ATI site, refer to the Win2k drivers as Beta! Are we perchance, testing ATI's beta Win2K drivers for them?

I just bought an Athlon XP 2000+ with an AIW and a SBLIVE but I haven't installed anything yet... I suddenly feel very unpleasant about installing win2k...
