I've tried everything to get this thing to work and it hasn't. When I try to open the ty program with my ati allinwonder pro 32mb agp the splash screen comes up and then an error message says that it unable to start TV:
"The TV player failed to initialize the video.
Ensure the correct video drivers have been installed and clos any applications which may be playing video such as DVD or WebTV before attempting to restart TV"
I've download all the drivers imaginable and use mediacenter 7.1. Any help would be greatly appreciated. ATI needs some help.

I just downloaded all of the drivers from the ati site last night. I had no trouble installing them and getting everything working, including DVD! Make sure you download and install the new video driver first, then install the mediacenter, then the DVD (you will need the original DVD install CD to be able to install the upgrade).

I don't have a solution for you, but I can say that I've had the same EXACT problem with my ATI All-in-Wonder Pro in a new, clean installation of Win2k Server. I installed the drivers and mediacenter that the website said to install, and I got the same message you did when I tried to open the TV tuner. Sorry I can't help, just wanted to let you know you're not alone. If you find a fix, let me know. I'm reinstalling Windows soon for other reasons, so I'll try it again in a different order and post again if it miraculously works.

I have the exact same problem running Windows 2000 Pro. I have checked the ATI website and found nothing useful. I have e-mailed tech-support but I am not too optimistic about finding a solution. I suppose the lesson to learn here is NEVER buy a video card unless the driver is available and works properly. Soon to be released usually means that the card will soon be obselete and un-supported.

I guess I need to eat my words, ATI has replied this morning:

Dear Tom Sarkozi,

Thank you for contacting ATI Technical Support Canada.

Regarding TV player failed to initialize the video errors:

We have recently been made aware of an update to DirectX 8 that should resolve this issue. Please visit http://www.microsoft.com/directx/homeuser/downloads/default.asp and download and install the Digital Video Update for DirectX 8.0. If your issues persist once this update has been installed please let us know. Details at the link below.

The above has indeed fixed my problem, hats off to the ATI tech support people..

I have had the exact problem. I found quite accidentally. I was installing several DVD types of programs and thought I had broken my TV program. I am using an ATI All-In-Wonder Raedon 32meg board with an AMD 1gig T-Bird Processor w/Win98SE. I have been having problems with my screen display. I would double-click on ‘MY COMPUTER” then double-click on the ‘C’ drive and when the icons would fill up the window, the computer would lock tight, no cursor, no caps lock, no numbs lock, no Ctrl-Alt-Del. Dead. So after a day of MsConfig and adjusting everything I could think of, I found that if I adjusted the Display Properties/Settings/Advanced/Performance from FULL to MOST or BASIC my icons would paint like a 2400 bd modem. Not thinking of that anymore, and the TV was working, I had just watched something. I thought that I had broken the TV with one of the DVD programs. So, I spent Saturday trying everything even deleting DirectX 8.0a and finally ending up KILLPATH C:\WINDOWS and reinstalling everything. When I would install a program or have windows discover a piece of hardware, I would check to see if the TV was working. It worked every program and I thought I had it licked. When of course I double-clicked the D: drive opened up a window and Wham! That dammed hung icon thingie, ok no problem, adjust display properties again and after it has me re-boot I noticed the ATI icon was no longer in the system tray? Mmmm wonder what the hell happened to the icon? I looked and it was still in the start menu/program bar, however, when I click, I get the familiar error message;

“The TV player failed to initialize the video, yadda yadda yadda.”

What the hell now?!? Well, since the last thing I had installed was the scanner, I promptly uninstalled that, and then rebooted and still no ATI icon in the system tray, I tried uninstalling the VIA AGP 4x/100 drivers for the motherboard and still no luck. Racking my brain this time as to why all of a sudden no ATI icon and no TV program. BAM! It hits me, display properties/performance. I moved the slider bar to full and windows had me restart and voila! The ATI icon in the system tray and the TV program back to work! Well this puts me in a pickle, if I want to watch TV I have to make sure the slider bar is set to FULL, but this makes my PC lock up. ATI sux… While this PC setup is new, I have had the same problems with a SuperMicro motherboard with all different hardware. And the same problem only this time with an ATI all-in-wonder Rage 16mb.

Well Guys,
I had a tiger system with an AMD processor and got the Allinwonder Radeon card, and had nothing but problems. However, I knew that it was probably my whole setup giving me problems. I basically built a whole new system around the video card. It was fairly expensive, however the results were fantastic. I used an ABIT VP6 dual board, plenty of RAM, and a ATA 100 HDD. I changed a couple of settings on the soft menu, and everything worked perfectly. I can record, use the video scan, watch a football game on a small TV box, listen to another game over internet radio, and see all the scores in the country at the same time. Its great!! I love the ATI Allinwonder Radeon. Now they are coming out with a new card this month that has an RF remote control. I Can't wait!!
