I suspect this might be a OS win2000 problem rather than Apacher problem.
After hosting my site for 2+ years it appears something broke. Im not sure if it’s Apache or Win2000 OS. The problem is all my pics (gif, jpg… display with the broken image, as if I have the browser option set to display no pictures. The log file shows that the GET on the image was requested & successful … HTTP 200.
I took this opportunity update to Apache 2.0.49 and PHP 4.3.6. only to see the same result … broken images displayed from *.php or *.html file. I created a backup server on another computer and redirected my router to point to the backup server…all is fine.
Im completely lost for clues or ideas…Before I reinstall the WIN2000 OS does anyone have a clue/hint … maybe a damaged window register or better yet a simple switch I can maybe flip back on (wouldn’t that be nice)?
Thanks
Joe
got the same problem with apache 2.0.49, php 4.3.6 version and win xp since today. no idea what the cause could be :\
worked all fine before
I got the same problem last night also for no reason.
So I decided to uninstall php and apache,
re-did left the httpd.conf with its default, view the server,
and you know what? The default apache webpage displayed images.
But when I changed it to the root folder that I myself was using,
images wouldn't display. Also some pages on my server
aren't displayed correctly, instead it shows the html source
coding which was supposed to show the actuall page.
Then I tried downgrading the apache to 1.0.x.x still the same thing.also im getting these line in my access.log
127.0.0.1 - - [27/May/2004:21:30:00 -0700] "GET /ads/3493/0000003493_000000000000000076767.swf HTTP/1.1" 404 326
see how it says "GET /ads/...swf I do not have a "/ads/" folder,
its like someone is trying to request it, like some advertisining crap,
and its requestion a flash file. Please if you may tell me what some of these HTTP/1.1 mean in the log:
HTTP/1.1" 200 609
HTTP/1.1" 200 304
HTTP/1.1" 200 732
HTTP/1.1" 404 287
HTTP/1.1" 200 24898
HTTP/1.1" 404 326
HTTP/1.1" 404 351
HTTP/1.1" 404 456
HTTP/1.1" 404 295
HTTP/1.1" 404 321
HTTP/1.1" 404 340
HTTP/1.1" 404 332
HTTP/1.1" 404 295
HTTP/1.1" 404 303
HTTP/1.1" 404 466
HTTP/1.1" 404 469
stil got the prob :\ maybe i should reinstall the whole system
HTTP/1.1" 200 means request was succesfully, file found and loaded
HTTP/1.1" 404 would be "file not found" the number after the code is the size of the requested file
I had the same problem too - finally found the solution after browsing through Google:

I had (note I said had) the same problem, it took me a week but I finally corrected it. If you're running xp and have NTFS file system do this:EnableSendfile off
I also turned this off although I did this first and it didn't enable the file send, but suggests turning off if using NFS:
EnableMMAP off
Hope this helps!Feathers

AngryTree
I've had this problem now for a couple of days, and I've tried several of the solutions out there.
What actually worked was... ta-daaa:!! EMPTY THE BROWSER CACHE !!
The apache-log contained "Error 304 Not modified" for each image loaded; i.e. the image was already in the browser cache. Which it clearly wasn't. :-/
This worked in both IE 6.0.2800 & opera 7.5Hope this helped!

Thank you Angrytree for "EnableSendfile off"
I started getting a problem with Apache 2 and images over about 3.75K yesterday, and have been chasing around all over the place looking for an answer. Activating this setting worked instantly for meWindows XP Home
FAT32 filing system
Apache 2.0.49 (now - was 2.0.39 at the start of all this)
Brilliant!!!!
This has been driving be absolutely insane for a week now. My wife was going to leave me if I spent another minute updating and reloading Apache/PHP/MySQL...
This issue seems to have occured after yet another windows patch.
THANK YOU ANGRYTREE! You have saved my server and my marriage.
While I did have to dump my cache to get Mozilla to display my pages, this alone did not solve the problem.
"EnableSendfile off" and "EnableMMAP off" did the trick.
Windows XP Home
FAT32 filing system
Apache 2.0.49
And yet more thanks to AngryTree for saving yet another life (I was about commit suicide by smashing my head through my monitor screen). Your solution worked for me also - after days of fruitless struggle re-reading manuals - rewriting pages - reediting images and far too many cigs, bananas and extended primal scream therapy sessions in the toilet.
