Does Windows2000 have a program that allows you to monitor all startup programs like the msconfig.exe in 98? If not, does anyone know of any utilites that allow you to do this?

http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml This is a site to download a utility that does all msconfig did pretty well and does not need a reboot when the items are unchecked. It puts an icon in control panel.

If you dont use that app its still pretty easy. You just have to edit the registry. Go to start, run. Type in regedit. Push the plus next to HKEY_Local_Machine. Then push the plus next to Software. Then push the plus next to microsoft, then push the plus next to Windows. Then push the plus next to current version. Then click on the run folder itself. In the right hand side under default will be all the items that start up automatically when you boot your computer. To disable it from starting up double click the item and add a minus to the end of the value data. Close regedit when done and changes will take effect next boot. Good luck.

First of all, DO NOT GO INTO YOUR REGISTRY! Only do this a) if you absolutly need to and b)if you know what you are doing, and c)have created a backup. Some things you can try are this. First of all, if you look around you can find an MSCONFIG for 2000. It was released on Whistler and now there are several copies floating around. If you are not able to do that then go to www.iolo.com and download System Mechanic. It is a great utility for this and for alot of other things. Please dont edit your registry unless you know what you are doing, if you do you can defiunately screw your machine up.
