Here is the scenario:

One hard drive ... 2 partitions ... Primary Master (c: ) has Windows XP (NTFS)

After installing Windows 2000 Pro or Server on the logical partition (d: ) the boot loader of XP gets replaced by the older version of 2000 .... CANNOT dual boot to XP Unless re-install XP.

ANY EASIER SOLUTION than to RE-INSTALL XP

HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Easy peaze.

Copy the XP NTLDR and NTDETECT.COM file from the XP CD to the boot drive (primary master C:\). The W2k boot loader files are not forward compatible.

Yes - just put XP's ntldr & ntdetect.com back in the root of C: (they're on the XP install CD in \i386) - ie, overwrite the 2k ones.

If still a problem (don't think it will, but...), boot into XP's recovery console & use fixboot command.

Either post 1 or 2 routines should resolve it for you. Probably the recovery routine is the easier option? More on this at:
