alt + tab takes forever

I upgraded from a gefroce 4 mx 400 to a 5900 ultra video card, when im in a game, pressing alt tab takes about 7 second longer than with my old video card, reinstalled nvidia drivers, tried overclocking, why does an 8x card take so long compared to my old 4x card? and help would be appreciated. I run my desktop and games @ 75hz. Thanks
