hi. Had XP installed but Alcatel modem kept causing a blue screen. After speaking to BT they said drivers weren't XP compatible, so I reinstalled Windows 2000. Same problem still occurs. I get blue screen with the message:
DRIVER_IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Address: EB4F6F2D @ EB40000, DATESTAMP 3bbac7d, alcan5wn.sys
I have upgraded to version 1.4 of the driver.Any ideas, please........

i had a similar problem to this...thats not saying what i did will fix yours..
anyway I found out that somehow windows 2000 set all irqs to 11 (very helpful) anyway I went into the bios and changed these around and it worked...

I also have the re-booting problem with Windows XP. On the blue screen of death it says that alcan5wn.sys is to blame. I have an Alcatel SpeedTouch ADSL modem with the latest driver 1.4 installed. I use WinMX P2P file sharing quite a lot. When I had the old driver 1.3 installed before I upgraded to 1.4 everytime I started WinMX it used to turn the ADSL modem icon yellow. I then upgraded to driver 1.4 only to have the computer reboot itself whenever it liked! Sent an email to Alcatel today, who know what will happen. If you do a search on alcan5wn.sys through Google, it seems that this is a VERY common problem. Most of it is in French and the translation is just about comprehendable.

if you using norton personel firewall or internet security try the live update for software upgrade..

There is a solution to the problem and it was with the Drivers for the Alcatel modem. They have just released V1.6Beta and they fix the rebooting problem. Goto www.touslesdrivers.com. Is all in french but you can sort of get whats going on.

I've had this annoying problem too. THANKS for the link to the 1.6 driver download - trying that now.
Tom

I had the same problem. I have installed version 1.6Beta and it seems to have solved the problem. I haven't seen a blue screen since!
Thanks for the tip!Nikos

I just could not download the program. If somebody sent me the program on my email adress, I really appreciate.

Can anybody send me the exact link to download the 1.6 beta version of the driver please? I couldn't find it. I would be so happy if somebody can send the link to me.

Well, I don't speak French at all, but as far as I can tell from the postings on the www.touslesdrivers.com web site, the 1.6 beta Speed Touch drivers have been removed at Alcatels request.
If anyone knows different, please feel free to e-mail me at opyke@hotmail.com

I just got the same problem. WinXP and audiogalaxy worked good since november, now i get this bluescreen every day, dont know why... i also surched google for this driver, but every link goes to "touslesdrivers" :-( If anyone knows, please post the link here!!!!!!

Ok people. I have had alot of requests for this file so I setup an ftp so you can download it. Mail me if you need it.
Simon

Thanks Simon.I got the program and so far it did not reboot, but I got another problem. It frequently disconnects .I mean every minute.Does anybody know what is going on about that.

Hey i had the same disconnecting problem..but mine disconnects with the usb driver i got from arcatel..no blue screen..but it disconnectes me every 1 or 2 hour..anyone?

Well from what I found out it is because either your power saving for your usb device is kicking in, or you have more than 1 usb device connected directly to your pc. Your USB outputs 500mA and your Modem uses 500mA. Therefore if you say have a webcam and modem connected at the same time like I used to it sometimes makes the modem icon goes yellow. If you have one device, dig around till you find the power saving option and turn it off. Hope that helps.

Also THANKS to Simon!!! I downloaded the Beta and everything works OK now. I dont think its bad to have more than 1 USB devices connected: I have 6(!) allways conncted: Webcam, Scanner, Modem, Digital Camera, Mouse, Wingman force feedback - no problem! Knocking on wood ;-) But I really HAD problems with usb and power saving, so I switched off every saving (Bios and Windows). So I think THIS may be a problem...
Thanks again, Simon!

Just a long shot but was wondering if all these past posts were using Norton Firewall or internet security its just that this may be of interest....
Robhttp://service2.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nip.nsf/docid/2000112411113636

Definitely NO! I had the problems BEFORE I installed norton firewall, after installing norton I DID run LiveUpdate, but the problem was the same. The beta-update was the solution, and it had a lot of other positive effects, e.g. my dsl-connection is now ready in less then 2 seconds :-)
Annika Sarah

Same here. Running both and have the latest updates and so far the only thing I have found that stops the rebooting is the Beta driver

I don't have Norton products installed in my computer.
Same blue screen occured today many times.Especially when running AC Satellite file sharing software. Now I'm downloading latest 1.6b driver. ý hope it works.

Hi... Have the same problem..... Had wrote an E-Mail to Alcatel. Here was the answer of Alcatel: Alcatel is aware of an issue with some peer-to-peer file-sharing software, in combination with Windows XP and the Alcatel SpeedTouch USB R1.4 drivers. This issue appears in some cases when the upstream bandwidth is completely used up by the file-sharing application. Alcatel is working on this problem and hopes to be able to offer a solution to it's clients as fast as possible. One temporary workaround would be to limit the upstream bandwidth that is available to the file-sharing softw Problem (Summary): I am getting bluescreens with alcan5.sys in Win XP Solution: Please find our official statement below. We are expecting an updated driver early April. Thank you for making ALCATEL products part of your Internet Solution. Kind regards Marc Colquhoun Alcatel Helpdesk e-mail dslcontact@alcatel.be www.speedtouchdsl.com ..........................................................................

I think i got the alcatel problem fixed (sort of).
Install the drivers as normal, patch them up to 1.4, then replace the driver in c:\winnt\system32\alcan5wn.sys with the one from the 1.6 drivers.
My modem claims its connecting at 3.5gbps, but I have yet to see a bsod related to that driver. When I put 1.6 on just themselves though it kept disconnecting me.
your milage may vary but it might help those who've tried everyhthing else (like me!)

or from
gidro.free.frGood Luck !

for the every minute disconnection : i also had this problem . it was due to adsl autoconnect, i have no idea WHY in so far as it had been no problme for a long time. so now i let it start and then turn it off. it works pretty well now :).

Well I have been dealing witht his USB prob for a while now in win 2k and win 98. In 98 there is a vxd fix you can get, I am about to try the 1.6 beta's kets hope this works? Unfortunately it is my understanding that usb ports were not originally designed to pass large amounts of data for long periods of time? Anyway lets hope this works. If you can get the speed touch home external modem. Works great!!

Great Forum!
Problem Solved!
Question is, why the hell has it taken Alcatel so bloody long to fix this?

ya all good.. i have the 1.6 beta and seems fine so far.. i was also having trouble with my upload speed, was only uploading about 10k max, took the modem round a friends who didnot have this prob and it still was slow, then.. installed the new 1.6 and its fast again lol... well lets hope it has fixed the speed prob aswell as the bluescreen of death ! thanks for your help eeveryone.

Well I still get a mail every now and then about this so I am going to post the link I have to the driver. Last time I checked the link worked.

Have a look at this site: www.tweakxp.com. Look under hardware for problems with xp and usb/dsl stuff.

I have same problem but.....I even tried the 1.6beta and same think continue to happen...I have tried every advice found on internet (franch google ect....) but I can't solve this problem. I even tried to upgrade to 1.4 and then manually put the 1.6 driver in the system folder but...nothing. Like one month ago I have disable all sharing (that is not a good thing but...) using the first driver provided by Alcatel (some posts say to try the old driver) and the problem didn't happen anymore. Now I have installed the winmx3.1 and everithing is started again...blue screen every hour.
If someone know another way to solve this...please help us....Thanks
Diego

Thanks for all your help, I was about to put a brick through my PC !!
Have installed 1.6 and everything seems OK.
Originally I had Norton Firewall installed but it was a nightmare. I removed it but the problem was still there. The machine was switching itself off completely in WinMX. I tried doing a reinstall of XP over the current version and it changed to the blue screen of death, which gave me the driver name to find this forum. Thanks again everyone.

Got this from TweakXP:
Disable Hibernation
Right click on your desktop, click the screen saver tab, once there you should see a power button at the bottom of the display properties dialog, click that, ones dialog appears click the hibernate tab, and uncheck enable hibernation.Disable Windows Messenger
Go to your start menu, click run.
In the Run dialog type gpedit.msc
Go to Computer Configuration>Administrative Templates>Windows Components>Windows Messenger
Once there right click Do not allow Windows messenger to be run, go to properties.
Check the box next to enable. When I had WinXP installed I had the disconnecting problem with Epox 8K7A+, if I remember correctly there is no option for USB power management but I will have another look when I reboot. When I eventually put XP back on I will try V1.6 again.
I have 4 USB but only things like printer, mouse and controller attached with USB.
Anywaysm hopefully do it this Bank Holiday. If all goes well I will be able to dump ME (except for games that won't work in XP of course)

I've installed the 1.6 drivers under Win XP pro and all works well except for a sudden disconnection about every 4 hours, my ISP says that they don't have a disconection policy and i should be able to stay on 24/7 does anybody know of anyway to stop it doing this? ive tried every thing mentioned above but to no avail.(the modem is on a separate mains powered hub)

I have bought myself a PCI card with USB on and connected my modem to that. I installed V1.6 Beta drivers and on Win2000 the BSOD still appears. I uninstalled and then installed 1.3, upgraded to 1.4 and then copied the alcan5wn.sys file from the 1.6Beta update to over the installed driver but the same happens.
Any ideas

Alcan5nw.sys BSOD. I was getting the BSOD and I installed the new version 6 beta driver for my USB modem and I drop connect about every 3 or 4 minutes. I disable the wake for USB in the bios and made sure the jumpers on my motherboard are set to disable wake for USB. Any suggestion what I need to check next to stop the connection from dropping?

Oh My God!!I am going to kill this PC!
I get the blue screen of death everytime i try to down load stuff from WinMx 2.6, I have freeserve alcatel speedtouch usb and 1.6 drivers, what can i do?Please someone help!!!!

I'm trying the upgrade now fingers crossed ;)

Got similar problmes to you guys as well.
Running 2000 Server, with the USB modem.
Have the 1.6 patch.
Leave it running over night downloading bits and pieces, in the morning it has rebooted itself!!!!
Also getting the disconnect problem, leave the house knowing it is running, try and connect to my Exchange server and get page not found errors, go home and look and Internet connection has dropped off, it is not redialing automatically like it is set too as well.

Hi, my connection gets cut off every hours or 2 for about 12 hours or so, and then if I'm luck it comes back on, and the same thing again and again.....I updated my drivers to v1.6 last night, but then it happened again, and I didn't have a connection until this morning... so I guess it didn't work...
Anyone, please help, don't know what else to do...Thanks!
Carola

I have had BSOD on my Win 2K Server since the day I installed this modem with 1.4 drivers. Last night I found this link to 1.6 drivers - no mention of them being beta, so hopefully they're the real thing. I installed them last night and have had a good few hours uninterrupted service so far. Fingers crossed! http://www.speedtouchdsl.com/support.htm

UPDATE TO 1.6 driver then ..........
Some usb dsl/cable modems may get disconnected after a little while. A possible reason that could cause this problem is that in windows xp there is an option that allows the computer to turn off a usb device to save power. To disable this option:
1) click start, highlight my computer, right click and select properties and a window will pop up with the system properties
2) click on the hardware tab and press the device manager button
3) expand the universal serial bus controllers
4) Double click on the USB Root Hub.
5)Select the Power Management tab and UNTICK the "allow the computer to turn off the device to save power"If you have more than one USB Root Hub, then you should apply the steps to each one of them
That's it, you won't need to restart the computer!
