AIM Won't Connect

We've been using AIM for about 6 months. Recently we loaded Yahoo messenger and have been using both for about 2 months. Suddenly, the AIM won't work. It states it is connecting and verifying password and all and then nothing happens. The little icon in the tray won't let you right click on it, it only pops up that you are not connect. If you click on the desktop icon or the start menu's start icon, it does nothing and when you go to the tray icon, it disappears when you touch it with the mouse. I've unstalled and reinstalled it several times, in different directories. I've deleted all the AOL stuff I can find (I'm not on AOL) and I've taken Yahoo Messenger off, also. I can't figure this out. Any suggestions? Thanks very much!
