Well, I guess I can solve this problem easily. Follow these steps:

Login with another user account>>open my computer>>%systemroot(e.g: C:\Winnt)>>System32>>config>>SAM

When you see that file, delete it, close all windows>>log off>>then log on with administrator>>make sure you don't enter any password in the "password box" just press enter and you will access your administrator account. To create a new password, as you know: Ctrl + Alt + Delete, and in the old password box, leave it in blank. That's it!!!!

Hopefully, you follow these steps and you will solve this problem. Let me know if can do it

Melvin

guys it's time to buy some good books, you need to learn a lot!!!!. All he needs to do is install Win2k to another partition, assuming he is using Fat32, he will be able to delete the file.

Mark and Dario, please use your head!!!!

Mell, use YOUR head.

He is probably NOT using FAT32 and even if he is it wouldn't matter. If he reinstalls to another version of the OS, it does'nt matter which partition, he will be able to log on as Admin. He will then be able to delete the file whether it is FAT32 or not.

You need to re-read the books yourself from reading some of your posts.

mell1, chill out man. you were proven wrong, stop making yourself sound like a fool.

If it is FAT32 he can just boot off of a WIN98 boot disk and delete the SAM that way, if it is NTFS he can install W2k on another partition/drive and access the original W2k and delete the SAM. If he cannot do that boot up a linux distro and use jack the ripper to extract and hack the SAM to get the password

You stated:

"Login with another user account>>open my computer>>%systemroot(e.g: C:\Winnt)>>System32>>config>>SAM"

that cannot be done as a regular user (if it is NTFS) that is all that is being said, plus anyway this original post was w.r.t. nothing, a solution to no question, now either you are some mystic meg or you have an inferiority complex where you have to make yourself look good by posting replies to problems, however you messed up since you forgot to include the question...

To Mark and the other guys......I'm not here to make enemies, or something of that nature. Perhaps if I reacted the way I did was because you called me stupid....But anyway, that's behind me. I'm not trying to impress anybody here nor I think that I know more than you guys, probably you know more than me, and that's fine with me. My goal was to solve the problem. After reading my post, I've noticed that I confused most of you here, specially when I talked about "Login with another user account" and I was wrong about it the way I said it and if I said something that you or anybody didn't like I apologized.......Now about how to solve the Administrator Password problem, I know how to do it by deleting that file. One last thing, let me ask you this: can you solve the problem? I'm very confident that this was the question originally posted>> Can you get a Lost Administrator Password from a Windows 2000 System?..........If you know another way to solve this problem, post it and let us know.

This is a perfect example, how people with limited knowledge, are quickly ready to call others stupid, but and don't have the capability to get the actual quetion.

Mel11 chill out. you have been proven wrong. stop acting like a spoilt little child and grow up

You have just posted an answer to a question that isn't seen here. Now either you are mystic meg or you have an inferiority complex where you have to post problem and then post solutions to make yourself look good, but you messed up and did not post the question

you said:

Login with another user account>>open my computer>>%systemroot(e.g: C:\Winnt)>>System32>>config>>SAM

from this no info about what file system W2K is on. It must therefore be assumed that it is on NTFS - W2K native format. In such a system you cannot delete the SAM in that fassion (As I stated!!!!!)

If the system is on FAT you could log in as another user and delete the SAM, or boot of a Win98 boot disk and delete it that way.
If it is NTFS then either install another W2K on another partition and del SAM from that instance of W2K or install the HD in a computer running NT/W2K. Or if you want it done properly boot a linux distro and rip the SAM file and crack it with jack the ripper

either way grow up and re-read the book. never assume anything and get your facts straight before you go charging head first into something (why do you think the US lost Vietnam)

Ok. Guys.

Time to fix the problem... Hmmz... I can't even read the problem any more.

Anyway. Asuming the problem is to change the admin password on an NT/2K Box, just use one of the excelent free utilities.. Don't delete the entire SAM database... :))

There are like tons of these.. One can be found at:

http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/bootdisk.html

Set admin pw to whatever you want it to be and thats it.

Hope this helps the original writer.

N.
