Ok a bit long winded guys but would love some feedback.

My dad has a Laptop from his work that he no longer uses as he has left the job. They told him just to keep the laptop. The only problem is it has administrator passwords and wont let me install anything on it due to the admin restrictions.

I would really like to install windows xp on it however it will not let me due again to the admin rites.I have tried booting from the windows xp cd however for some reason it doesnt boot from it and just loads windows 2000 like normal. Does anyone have any ideas how i can get win xp on this laptop without the admin password ?

Have your dad get the appropriate passwords.

You don't need any account information if you're going to start from scratch. Have you set the CD as first boot device in the BIOS?

Life is more painless for those who are brainless.

256 is a bit skinny on ram for xp. make sure you have all the xp drivers for the laptop before you nuke it or you can end up with a boat anchor.

Imagine the power if you knew how to internet search

Not sure about laptops but with desktops you must press a key when prompted on the screen in order to boot from a bootable CD. Also the computer needs to be set to boot from the CD prior to the harddrive.
