Reply: (edit)Seeing how most of us are admins ourselves, they probably won't give you that info. Seeing as how he is responsible for those machines running correctly, I'm on his side. If you just let the users install any app they want, it opens the door for all sorts of problem. If you try to go behind his back to install your program, he'll find out eventually and really tighten down what you can do. You'd be better off explaining your situation to him and trying to get your application installed.

Reply: (edit)In order to install applications you have to be a member of admin as you probably know. Getting the password is not just that simple. That's the whole idea. If was easy it would defeat the whole purpose. There are some tools on the web that can be used to recovery lost admin passwords and change admin passwords on a machine. Do a search and see what you find. I can't point you to any specifically.

However I feel sure that you could tell me exactly where to go, or what to search (name of the utility) because I think your level of knowledge at this field seems to be really high, after reading of some of your talks. Please show me the way, I will really appreciate it. In case You dont want to do it here, please send me the info to sirmisa@centrum.cz

Reply: (edit)I tend to agree with the N.Am input on Admin. issues... but nonetheless http://www.computing.net/windows2000/wwwboard/forum/24957.html may offer you some solutions? Mind you, you will get 'found out' as you will have to change the Admin passwword if you go the freebie/Linux route; and also the temp install approach... Are you ready for the consequences?

Reply: (edit)Coming from a system admin here, try this suggestion... You currently are, most likely, configured as a "restricted user". Ask (very sweet and nice) your admin if he/she can set you up as a "standard user - in the power users group". This user access can install some applications, and can not modify system files. Hope this helps.

Reply: (edit)Why do you "people" put your "personal" views/opinions into an answer? When someone wants help the burden/fault is on them NOT you. Please lose the "PC God complex" when replying to others problems. If you won't/can't answer don't. Nobody cares what you think/feel about their problem, just results in finding a solution. Remember: What comes around goes around!!(ie: Car-TV-VCR-etc., repair.....lol..). You don't know everything and have no right to "preach" to others. Thats not what this fourm is here for.
