Comment:

For some reason I can not run Add/Remove Programs from the control panel. There's a bit of hard disk activity but no interface screen appears. The program does not appear in the task list. All other programs in control panel do however work.

How can I get this back as there are programs that only appear there that I can remove properly.

Regards

Gary :

it takes some time (on my laptop) to get
the Add/Remove Programs :
i think this has -for some reason- a low
priority in W2K.
i would defrag first and then look what is happening then.
i donot see it in the applications tab of
Task manager either.
Is it the Winmngt.ex process in the processes tab ??

How much free space on Hd you have ?
Good luck
Theo.

Free Disk space is currently at about 40gb on a 60gb hard drive.

I'll try and be a bit more patient and wait for something to happen but it used to appear in a reasonable time when it was working.

Thanks

Gary

I have the same problem. Also, Internet Explorer 5.5 won't work. The windows comes up but no url will load and I cannot access any menu items. No error messages show up.
I can use Opera and Netscape. My Office 2000 Programs also work.
I tried to reload IE but got the following error: urlmon.dll is "missing".
Could be related to the above problems.

I have the axact same problem. I click the cion i the control panel, but nothing happens. I checked the task manager and a process shows up. The process is "mshta.exe" and resides in the WINNT/System32/ catalog. I looked at properties on the file and it says "Microsoft (R) HTML Application host". I wonder what that has to do with removing programs...

I have no idea how to fix this though :-(
I'll post here if I find something.

I started receiving the winmngt.exe error after I installed Visio 2002. I am currently researching what caused this (or rather how to correct it). I will check back here for additional findings and note what I discovered.

I have read the microsoft info from above regarding the add/remove programs tool not working after installing IE 5.5 on win2k. Unfortunately i have a win2k advanced server running and did the IE 5.5 upgrade and not i cannot use the add/remove program tool. The problem with a server is that you must be in install mode in order to reinstall IE 5 or 6. In order to get into install mode you need to access add/remove programs. So if anyone knows of another way of putting the server into install mode I would like to hear it. I can't believe that the windows update tool allowed this to update my server knowing that this would happen. Any help would be appreciated.
