Hi,
I'm unable to add/remove any programs.

when i goto the add/remove programs the only the only text that appears is text on the top of the box listing the components that are usually listed on the left hand side of the screen. I recently installed WinAmp 5.1? I'm assuming the first effort should be to launch safe mode and add/remove this program.
any other ideas? has anyone else experienced this?

thanks in advance

Try running "sfc /scannow" (without the qoutes) at the run prompt. See if that fixes anything.
