Subject: Adding New Mirror and Boot.ini HELP

Comment:

Just re-created a mirror set / Raid 1 on my W2k server. Before I began, it gave a warning to the effect of:

"You just created a mirrored volume. If you want to boot from the new mirrored disk you must modify your ARC paths in your Boot.ini file. "

Now I'm wondering, does this mean I need to modify the boot.ini ONLY after DISK 0 drive dies (God Forbid), leaving only the newer disk left (DISK 1)? OR does it mean that before I reboot the server, I MUST add a new line to show the new disk: Disk 1?

Here is the boot.ini file for DISK 0, BEFORE I added the new mirrored drive:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)disk(0)partition(2)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)disk(0)partition(2)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Server" /fastdetect

It will boot fine without modifying the boot.ini. The message is telling you that if the drive that boot.ini is pointing to...disk0 dies, then there is no way to boot. In that case, you'll have to either modify the boot.ini or if you have the boot disk already pre-configured, then you can boot off the boot disk.

You don't need to do anything right now.
