Let me first say that I am a newbie to Windows 2000 Server. I recently started working tech support for a small company (1 server running Win 2000 Advanced Server & 13 workstations running XP pro). The server was set up as a stand alone server with work groups. I would like to enhance security and functionality by installing Active Directory.

My question is this - will installing Active Directory jeopardize or interfer with the currently installed programs or operational database? (this is an ongoing business, so I understand this will have to be done over a weekend)

Any help on this will be greatly appreciated.

Be silent and let them think you a fool;

Replicate what you have to a test server. Play with the test server not the live server. Access rights, logon scripts, Active Directory... all are not for the novice.

Imagine the power if you knew how to internet search

Thanks, I have no test server available, my plan is to pull one of the mirrored drives as a back-up before any testing.

This server is running an MSSQL database and I just read that it for Active Directory integration, MSSQL wants AD enabled before its installation. I'm now wondering how much problem this will cause...
Thanks again - Mark

That is not quite right. Might want to review this:

You don't have to intergrate sql into AD.

Imagine the power if you knew how to internet search
