Reply: (edit)Where do you start? There could be numerous reasons for this. Good luck getting someone to answer it. First of all though, try reinstalling Active Directory.

Reply: (edit)I have the same problem. If you get a good answer, would you please send it to me?. Thank very much. I have read about DNS problems but I think it's not my problem. Try to write active directory slow in www.google.com and you will get a microsoft page. I hope it will help you.

Reply: (edit)Where are you trying to open ADUC? From the server or from a workstation. My first guess would be a DNS issue. It is certainly the first place to look as AD relies extensively on DNS and proper setup. Look in the Event Viewer and see what sort of errors you are getting that might correspond with these slow access. We need more info to solve this but DNS and Event Viewer are good places to start.

Reply: (edit)I try to open ADUC from my server and I think DNS is ok. If I create an mmc and I place here ADUC it opens very quick but If I try to open it from the administrative tools my processor usage gets at 100% for 2 minutes and after that I get the console. I think DNS is right and this problem occurs even if I try to open it from another domain controller. Thanks a lot

Reply: (edit)if you open up mmc and add the users and computers snap in manually (rather then clicking on the ADUC, does it come up faster?

Reply: (edit)(I closed my previous message up too quickly) I am assuming that is what Eduardo means by the last post. If so I have seen the same thing twice. Ironically, both times were on networks with Exchange 2000 and Norton Antivirus Corporate 7.5 (with each, the problems didn't appear until those programs were installed, just in case there is a coincidence) Anyway, in both cases the problem was worked around by saving a manual msc file and using that instead of the formal ADUC plugin. MS has a document that dances around this problem, but it is not very helpful. Q246437 they blame LDAP. If you are running exchange, it does replace your msc version of ADUC (now located in the BIN folder, and you may want to verify it's integrity, or confirm that all of your shortcuts are pointing to it, rather then an older version. I hope this is a bit helpful.

Reply: (edit)I had this problem even before installing the connector with Exchange 5.5. I have installed the Active Directory twice but the problem keeps on. I have a warning in the Event viewer. Event id 5781, Source Netlogon with description Dynamic registration or deregistration of one or more DNS records failed because no DNS servers were available. I have made Netlogon to start later then DNS service but warning keeps on. I don't know if this could be a clue. On the other hand If I use nslookup I get this: C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator.SRV-MS- DACTIVE.002>NSLOOKUP GUID._MSDCS. MS-DIRECTORY.LOCAL Server: srv-ms-dactive.ms-directory.local Address: 172.28.1.16 *** srv-ms-dactive.ms-directory.local can't find GUID._MSDCS.MS-DIRECTORY.LOCAL: Non-existent domain I hope it can be helpful and you can help me cos' I'm desperated about it and I need it to work properly. Thank you very much

Reply: (edit)Make sure that the client machines are pointed to the AD DNS server, rather than an isp server for your nslookup issues. also cross reference your event viewer error logs with the ms kb. Here are a few that may help with your 5781 error Q252695 http://support.microsoft.com/search/preview.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q252695 Q257623 http://support.microsoft.com/search/preview.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q257623 Q311354 http://support.microsoft.com/search/preview.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q311354 hope this helps a bit

Reply: (edit)I have had a look to the articles you have told me but my ad console keeps on very slow. I have tried everything and the console keeps the same. I'm very confused cos' if I try to open the AD tools from an mmc created by me it works fine, but if I try it from the shortcut created by the Ad instalation it's very slow. If you have any idea about this I would be very thank (I'm alredy very thank to you). Thanks a lot

Reply: (edit)are you running antivirus on the servers? If so try disabling it temporarily and try the ADUC again. If it is faster, then your antivirus scanning msc extensions may be to blame. Here is a discussion of it. try going to this thread (it's a whopper) http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF8&threadm=%23qnotrZCCHA.2052%40tkmsftngp02&rnum=5&prev=/groups%3Fq%3Dactive%2Bdirectory%2Bmmc%2Bslow%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26ie%3DUTF-8%26oe%3DUTF8%26selm%3D%2523qnotrZCCHA.2052%2540tkmsftngp02%26rnum%3D5 hope this helps.

If somebody knows some hotfix from ARC or Microsoft I will be thanked. Thank you very much for your help
