Hopefully this'll be a quick question/answer, and not a bashfest on Active Desktop. I'm graphically inclined as well as computer literate and just need suggestions on a fluke:
As much as I prefer wallpaper versus A.D., I prefer multiple easily modifiable images versus one single image that's a pain to modify, and lower resolution. After removing an unwanted "Webcrawler Toolbar" for IE, in trying to enable my Active Desktop, I can right click the desktop, enable A.D., Show Web Content, and even add items, all without fail.

Problem: after wizarding through adding a new desktop item, *nothing* actually appears on the desktop. If I browse to the Web tab of the Display Properties, it shows silhouettes of items on a mock desktop, as if they're enabled, and selected for display, but they're not actually on the desktop. FYI- they're all local images on a running HDD except for J-Track (NASA).

Active Desktop sucks, you shouldn't be using it.

Ok just kidding, go to start, run and type in SFC to run the system file checker. Perhaps the Webcrawler toolbar hosed up some system files.
