hi i have restored system state and an authorative restore of services, but when i attempt to modify groups i recieve a messege that i am not a domain controller, my question is how do i (re-activate) my domain controller? if i have performed the dcpromo (installtion) wizard,restore mode ect....

how did you restore the system state/authoritative restore? if you did it correctly, you shouldn't have to do anything to "re-activate" it to be a domain controller. All you have to do is reboot it back to the normal mode after the restore.
