I have a winxp computer shareing some file.
group Administrator has full access
group EVERYONE has only read access

I now try to access this computer from a win2k laptop. I login using an account (Admin) that has the same username and password as the one on the xp machine. THis account is in administrator group in both computer. BUt I still have no write access...how shall I deal with this?

Welcome to the world of NTFS!
Administrators are members of Everyone, hence the name. NTFS is based on the most restrictive settings. Even though you have given permissions to the Administrators group, they are members of Everyone and the Everyone group only has read permissions. Make sense?

The solution: Leave the Administrators permission and remove the Everyone Group. Now add the groups that you want to have read permissions.
