Another question for hardware pros...

In my motherboard manual (Shuttle AK31), it indicates that the PCI Bus Master IDE Controller Onboard supports "80-pin cable Backward Compatible Legacy ATAPI Devices (i.e. ATAPI IDE CD-ROM, CD-RW, and LS-120 Supports)"

What does it mean?

When I installed a DVD-ROM in the secondary IDE, during boot up sequence, it indicates that "80-pin Cable not found".

Should I do anything?

Thanks in advance!

EK

I think you mean 40 pin 80 conductor cable used for ata66/100 harddrives. You can spot the difference between 40 and 80 conductor cables by just looking at the fineness of the wires making them up. I have seen lots of motherboards ship with only one 80 conductor cable and one older 40 conductor. The 80 is usually for the hardrives and the 40 for optical drives because they normally run at best ata33. You have nothing to worry about here if this is your case.
