What version of DirectX is installed?

Go to Start/ Programs/ Accessories/ System Tools/ System Information.

Now click on the TOOLS tab and then on DirectX Diagnostic Tool.

You can find the version on the general tab and you can test or turn on the 3D and AGP properties on the Display tab.

If the 3D option is grayed out then you’ll need better drivers. Search the Windows Update Site first. They will list drivers in some cases. Your card manufacturer should list drivers too.

I had the same problem with the same card and an AMD chip...random lockups (though in my case it did NOT happen when doing anything 3D - that never crashed. My system would only crash after a certain amount of time in Windows. I could play 3D games for hours, no problem. Go back to the desktop and try to surf the web? Boom, lockup.)

I wound up getting a new chip. Good luck!
