3d card display problem

i currently have a 8mb standard graphics chip on
my motherboard, i tried to install a nvidia 3d card
but my system is throwing up conflicts and display
problems, is there any way to disable the chip on my
motherboard? allowing my new card to deal with
graphics

Did you reinstall the Standard VGA graphics driver before installing your new card? If not, you have to change your display adapter to Standard VGA, boot it up in standard VGA mode, install the drivers to the new card, shutdown, install the card, connect monitor to new card, then bootup.
