I need some Win2k drivers for a 3c509b combo
3com arent making any cause supposedly they are on the win2k cd but i cant find them.

The driver is on the win2k CD.
Add new hardware, nic.
choose 3Com, and choose:
3com Etherlink III ISA (3c509/3c509b) in legacy mode

Reading your comment it looks so easy:
"The driver is on the win2k CD.
Add new hardware, nic.
choose 3Com, and choose:
3com Etherlink III ISA (3c509/3c509b) in legacy mode"But apparently the driver is NOT on (my) win2k CD, because it seems impopssibble for me to get the above NIC as an option to choose!?
Do I have an old Win2k CD?

Hi,
I have the same problem, installing 3c509b under Win2k Professional. During installation of the NIC I have posibillity to pick-up drv of EtherLinkIII ISA in legacy mode, but when I do that Win2k report that driver is not appropriate and I now I nave "!" yellow mark next to NIC's name in Device manager.
So, there are two possibilities:
1) I did it wrong.
2) Driver is not the right one.Any suggestions? Any alternative drivers/ways of installation?
Note: As far as I know, there is no Win2k drivers for NICs on 3com's site.Looking for anybody's help.
Thanks.
Al

I forgot to say, that during boot of Win2k Plug-and-Play works fine. Windows recognize the NIC EtherLInk III ISA 3c509b card and trying to find driver, but....not the right one....or...its me...
help?

I have tried all of the above and it does not seem to work. You have to turn plug & play (pray) off on the nic configuration in DOS, and then win2000 doesn'et even recognized the nic........?????? Help

I had the same problem and have just solved it. (My new card was in plug & play mode and was detected by Win2K but a driver could not be found).
Go the \i386 directory of the Win2K CD-ROM and find the file NETEL5X9.IN_ .
Use the EXPAND command to expand the compressed file to its original size and file extension somewhere on your hard disk
Eg expand d:\i386\netel5x9.in_ c:\netel5x9.inf
Go the \i386 directory of the Win2K CD-ROM and find the file DRIVER.CAB which contains network card drivers.
Use the EXTRACT command to extract the file ELNK3.SYS from the DRIVER.CAB to the same directory location on your hard disk where you expanded the NETEL5X9.INF file.
Go to Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager. Find the unrecognised card and select Properties then Update driver. Browse to the temporary directory where your two files are stored when prompted for driver location. The drivers should be correctly installed.
Happy networking!
Dave
