About to break out the bat!! I've gone
thru everything a dozen times and no answers!Intermittent slow page loads. Connection is
bellsouth DSL to the PC onboard LAN via westell dual connect modem supplied by BS.Sometimes pages load very quickly and everything works great. Others...a page
starts to load but won't finish without a refresh....or after typing in an address and clicking GO on the browser the microsoft window (top right) starts spinning but nothing is happening....then a page refresh and it usually loads quickly. Something is getting stuck.Something to note. Most of the time the westell modem Ethernet light is on solid but
when the page loads hang up the Ethernet light usually (but not always) starts flashing as if its either not sending all data at once or my pc LAN isnt receiving fast enough.I'm using Mcafee personal express firewall and Mcafee virus 2004 v8.0. Tried disabling
both and testing but no difference.I've run Mcafee for viruses (definitions are up to date). Also clean several times a week with Adaware 6 (updated also), spybot, and XCleaner. I also have the spybot Immunizer acivated (disabled for testing too- same result).
I re-installed windows a few months back with no difference. Also re-installed IE6 SP1 with no difference. (all patches installed too)
Sooo... no spyware...virus and firewall not the problem and still intermittent slow page loads... Do I have a LAN problem? Modem?
Any ideas? Anyone? Pleeeassee help...
I'm reachin for the bat...

Forgot to add... I have reset the modem immediately after the page slow downs on several ocassions then reconnected to it and no difference. Works fine for a while...then at random....pages load slowly or stop until a refresh.
ALSO.... I've tried OPERA broswer thinking it might be an IE problem. OPERA generally loads pages faster than IE anyway...but I can tell the problem is still ocurring. The OPERA page load takes longer and the ethernet light on the modem starts flashing.
Only difference is since OPERA is faster than IE it will usually be able to finish loading without a refresh....but...the wait... PLUS I NEED IE to do my work from home as I send pics to a remote server and my PC is a workstation and when I have to refresh I LOSE DATA!! The software is not built around OPERA so I'm stuck with IE.Either way....the slowdown using both browsers indicates a LAN slowdown somewhere to me....but what am I looking for? Motherboard LAN or modem issue...OR OTHER?
Just wanted to add the above to help someone diagnose this for me....if possible.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
