2k runs in safe but freezes in normal

Hello, I just built my system (soyo drag +, amd 1700+, matrox etv card and sb live 5.1 with live drive). I can run 2k in safe mode but then if I go to normal mode it freezes up. I don't have any of the updates, b/c i am only on dial in but it should still run in normal mode, right? Is there some prob with the idrive that other people have had w/ 2k? Any place to start would be good, I have all of the hardware installed. chadd
