I'm trying to repair a 2000 system. When I run the disk it goes thru its procedures, reboots at the correct times and the procedes to restart the setup process again. I'm watching it go thru its fifth iteration.........it never finishes the load.

Did you do a full format during the installation process?

Win98 is NOT an approved update path for Win2000. Furthermore you would need the upgrade version to do that. There is absolutely NO need to install any other OS prior to installing Win2000.

Are you by chance hitting any key when prompted to when the computer is rebooting? You shouldn't touch the keyboard at that point.

OtheHill is on it!
Format and install, after that IGNORE the message to
PRESS ANY KEY TO BOOT FROM CD!
...it will pause for a few moments waiting for you to PRESS ANY KEY
Leave it alone!

Embrace paranoia, they ARE out to get you!

"PRESS ANY KEY TO BOOT FROM CD...."
should be pretty self-descriptive when doing the install (and not a repair). Once you've installed 2K, you'd want it to boot from the HDD on the reboot. Though looking at it, lot's of folks are likely confused by that message....
And OTH is correct, there's no reason to have to install anything prior to the Win2K installation...
