After removing the lovesan virus and doublechecking that the virus isnt on the machine anymore I noticed some funny things. I cannot copy and paste in office. I heard there are three other machines that have the same problem after having been infected. My machnine has been patched and the latest updates are on my anti virus program now.
Can anyone help please?

looks like u have the blaster worm
go to http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.blaster.worm.removal.tool.html

run the tool, apply the patch AGAIN, do a full windows update and then check. It should solve the problem
Get back to me if you need further help

Disconnect from network and scan for the virus. Restart PC.Try the following:
1. Install SP4 (or make sure it's installed)
2. install MS fix 026 (or make sure that it's installed after SP4)
3. Run run %winnt%\system32\msiregmv.exe
4. reboot

Good Luck

Why is everyone so skeptical when someone posts that they have ridden themselves of the worm but are still having residual problems? Isn't it possible that the worm caused registry damage or something of the sort BEFORE they were able to get rid of it, and now that it's gone these problems are still occuring? I've been having the same problems as James for a week now, and I've used virus scans, "fixes" and patches every day, and all of them tell me that I NO LONGER HAVE THE WORM, yet every time I try to get some help here, the only responses I get are stupid things like "looks like u have the blaster worm". I'm at my wit's end with this thing... can I get a response BESIDES "install Service Pack 4" or "install the Microsoft patch" or "install the symantec msblast fixer" or "scan your registry for msblast*.* (or any other number of permutations)" or "download fixblast.zip" or anything else like that. We've tried these things a hundred times, and the only time they found anything was the very FIRST time we tried them! Since then, certain problems are still occrring. Does ANYONE out there have any clue as to how to fix them that doesn't require installing a service pack or a patch? Those things will not work for our problems!

Yes, being rude ALWAYS helps.

As YOU have already pointed out, YOUR problem is obviously registry corruption left over from the viral infection.

Therefore, why have you not simply restored your registry? I assume you DO have a backup of a nice clean registry somewhere that you can restore? You DO dont you?

Hi Momentarydogma,

I understand your frustration, and everyone elses. I'm having the same problems and haven't found a solution yet. I work in a place where there are many computers and there was a patch applied. Seems things are ok there. I'm trying to download and apply Service Pack 4. Might help, but couldn't hurt. I needed at least Service Pack 2 to use this patch. Anyway, I know what you're going through and if you or anyone finds a solution, I'd love to know what it is. Good luck to all.

Larry L

Leon-- I DO have a registry backup from less than two months ago, but I get an error every time I try to import it. I've gone through and compared the two, and I've restored some keys that had been changed significantly, but I can't import the whole thing, even in safe mode.
