hello-
i'm trying to install win2000pro on my hp6746c that came with windows ME on it. when i insert the win2000pro cd, the option to upgrade is "unavailable" so i choose fresh install option. everything seems to go ok-- all the steps get completed-- but when windows restarts itself the final time to "use" windows2000, it freezes at the "loading"screen. it hangs. the little blue line at the bottom of the page that keeps zooming by while windows boots also freezes (about 5+ seconds after windows logo appears).after reformating the hard drive, repartitioning the hard drive both in fat32 and ntfs, and installing windows 2000 several times, i was still able to use my windows ME recovery discs (after reformatting my drive to fat32 again). wouldnt the recognition of the recovery discs have been disabled by the reformatting of the harddrive? is this related to the problem with win 2000?
are some systems just not upgradeable?
one more thing. when i first tried to just install win2000pro over winME, i was given an option to start either win2000 or winme at a startup screen. win2000 would hang on bootup, but win me would still work. im very confused!
