Comment:

I have the computer running Server 2000, and it is connected with my computer through a switch. ICS uses this NIC (the other connection on the 2000 computer is shared) ... but that shouldn't be a problem right? Is there something I am missing?

Both computers are assigned names, both are on the MSHOME workgroup and both have shared folders. The XP computer is set for file and print sharing. Is there something in 2000 server that I need to do to get this working?

Each PC will require an account for its user on the other PC.

e.g. you use an account acc-1 on XP and perhaps acc-2 on W2K; create an account on XP for acc-2 and one on W2K for acc-1; give them appropriate rights, and provided firewalls are not incorrectly set... it ought to work.

Incidentally why using ICS? If this a dsl service... and you have an access-router... there should be no need of ICS; each PC being able to acess the dsl/www via the access-router?

I'm not quite getting the whole account thing, but I'll try what I think you mean.

I go to Morrisville State College ... first wireless campus in the USA, unfortunately, it is still the first wireless system. The set you need for the wireless internet costs about $130.

Via control-panel\user accounts (in XP) you can create an account a user (it's you who is the user...?) who is also a user on the W2K system. Via user-manager (?) - or whatever the eqiivilent is in W2K (not on a W2K system right now...) create an account for a user on the XP system (again it's you who is the user...?) Give it full access-rights in each case.

There is no reason not to have the same user-name/logon on both PCs and thus for the two accounts on both systems - as they're your PCs?

Understand why you use ICS now - $130 for the kit...; although you might find usable kit for less on the www?

Okay. I do have to reinstall 2000 Server becuase Server Management doesn't work anymore for some reason. But yep, they're both my computers. So it shouldn't be too hard once I get it reinstalled.

I did come across a lot of the Raylink card for like $30 dollars on ebay.

Be careful to ensure/verify there are drivers for these cards that work with W2K/XP... Check with appropriate web-site perhaps?

Got it set up. I have to say that it's great. I can be anywhere on the campus and go to run, type in //servername and access my files from anywhere.
