I need to connect my 2 pcs for file sharing.
Here are the specs..

1) An old p2@300, with 2 usb slots available, one linksys ethernet card, to which a cable modem is connected. Running win2k

2)an amd 2400xp, with 2 ethernet cards,4 usb slots, and also running win2k.

Now, i have a crossover cable, but when i plug it in both, i obviously lose my internet connection, plus i don't want both pc's on the net. Is there a way i can make use of the two unused usb ports on my old pc to connect only for file sharing purposes to the new pc?
I do have a few spare usb cables with which to connect the two.

if you want to connect two pcs for file sharing by using crossover cable (and you don't want internet connection), just simply move the two pcs into a separate network; connect them from one linksys ethernet card to another one linksys ethernet card by using the crossover cable. You don't need to plug in telephone cable for internet connection since you don't need it.

Well, I actually want only one computer, the older p2 online. The new one is basically a graphic workstation, and i don't need it online. Now, the only thing that I'm interested in knowing is if I can use the USB ports on both pcs to connect them for file sharing purposes. ONLY the USB ports.
