I am wondering how to remove a redundant copy of win2k on my computer. Do I simply delete the winnt folder? or is there more to it?
I have 2 copies of win2k on my hd, the redundant copy located in winnt is taking up 2Gb so it needs to go. I also still have win98 but I dont mind it on my pc.
Cheers for any help,
Ben

is there two winnt folders on the same drive?
Explain in more detail how and where they are set up (c: d: e: ect)

I have both win2k o/s installed on c:
The original win2k was installed over win98 and resides in the winnt folder, I tried to installed graphic drivers while in the original win2k (winnt) and got blue screen errors hence I had to reinstall a clean version of win2k. The 2nd version of win2k resides in winnt2 folder.Thankyou for trying to help - I hope I have provided more info to help you understand the situation!
Cheers,
Ben

Mark, I tried renaming the winnt directory and rebooted... I have have no problems thus far... my guess is that is should be fine to delete the entire winnt folder however will this remove the entire previous version of win2k? including the boot up choice?
Ben

As you have clearly identified/named each version, and presumably do know for sure which folder/version you wish to keep...
Set default OS to boot to version you wish to keep;
boot to it;
via Explorer locate/delete the folder for the unwanted vesion;
reboot to verify all is still OK with desired/preferred version;
presuming it is OK, edit out references in the boot.in to deleted version;
reboot again (just to check all is OK.Finally... empty recycle-bin; defrag drive; renew ERD and keep safe/current.
Job done.

I tried to delete the win2k folder but windows wouldnt let me... whats with that? is there any other way i can delete the old version of win2k?

Something not quite clear here...
Can you post your boot.ini and also confirm name/locations of both versions - as they appear on the drive and via W2K Explorer
When you delete the unwanted version the boot.ini will still be there (unless you also delete the various W2K boot-files, which there is no need to do). But once damaged version has gone, you will also have to remove its entry in the boot.ini - to tidy up.
The unwanted folder isn't, by chance, set to be read-only??? Check the folder properties to see what attributes may have been set; usually the winnt folder (or any other OS folder) is NOT read-only by default.
