Hi,

I have a user who has a computer that is 1.13Gigahertz with 256 megs of RAM and has Windows 2000 as the operating system. Windows 2000 has been working great the only problem is when he tries to use a 16 bit emulation software called Passport 3270 made by Zephyrcorp. Its 16bit software that allows users to have mainframe sessions. The problem isn't connecting and having a session he can do that. The problem comes only when he wants to click on the menu bar(File, Edit, View, etc.), when he does click on the menu bar he receives the following error.

Passwin has caused a general protection fault in module KRNL386.exe

The error happens everytime he clicks on it and then he has to press okay to get out of the program. Windows is still okay to operate but the only way for him to have another mainframe session is to close out the affected exe files in task manager and restarting passport. The error also comes up when he does a shortcut that is associated with the menu bar.

I know from going to windows support site that the NTVDM.exe file is used to control and run 16 bit programs but the solution they offered didn't help. Microsoft said to delete the NTVDM registry key in the registry to maybe elimate the problem.

At wits end any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

If you look at the bottom of that article that you read on the microsoft website under STATUS it says:

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article

I hate to tell you this but when Microsoft admits there is a problem with their own stuff, there is not much you can do about it!
