Greets all,

Loopback, what exacally does it do? What if 127.0.0.1 was deleted from the DNS spot on the server and can't be replaced.

I have been fighting a minor DNS problem, is the removal of this 127.0.0.1 the cause? I get of every station Event 1000 can't register name. Microsoft event list shows misconfigured DNS.]

I've ran through several different troubleshooting senarios, this is one of the last things I got to try.

I wiped the 127.0.0.1 out, because I didn't know better. Now when I try to replace it, it says that 127 is revserved for loopback, choose another.

TIA

Brian

Use the IP address of the DNS machine. If the IP of the server runing DNS is 192.168.0.2 you would use that address as the setting which is the same as the loopback.

Hello
First of all, where are you trying put back 127 ? 100 % of the time, if you do it through the right clicking network icon process, it's not going to let you and you know the message you get. like the person above me, you could configure your DNS to look at itself by putting its own address.....and...how are you trying to register names? dnamically or by runing the ipconfig /registerdns command? if the other, then maybe your dns server isn't configured to accept dynamic name registration, and if the latter, then i think that the clients can't find the DNS server, and you could let them see the server by putting the DNS server address in the DNS spot in each client or use DHCP and include it in the option. I wish i knew what's going on there better to give you better answer , but this is all i can give you according to what you have given. But i hope this helps

Thanks both for your response!

I'm tring to put the 127.0.0.1 where I wiped it out, in the DNS server portion of the network properties.

If I use the servers IP which is 10.10.1.1 then the event log says the DNS encountered a packet addresed to itself.

I do have the server set up to accept Dynamic updates.

I'm so confused...

I'll keep hackin away at it, Thanks for the input

Brian
