System Idle Process is between 90 and 100% CPU usage. My comp is so very slow. I am going to throw it out the window. Please help before I need prozac. It took me ten minutes to type this message, the comp can't think fast enough and keep up.

Hi,

System Idle Process is usually between 90 - 100%, this is not your problem.

What type of memory do you use? Do you have many windows open at one time?

I would run a virus scan and download and install Adaware and spybot and scan your PC for unauthorised activities.

The only problem with the above advice is that your computer is so slow that it would take you hours to complete the scans.

Another alternative is to boot into safe mode and delete any programs that you know you do not want

Good Luck,

Shaun

If you have a high speed connection directly on your computer, unplug the internet connection and see if it speeds up. If so, you need a firewall.

I would have to take a guess that you hav some sort of a trojan backdoor or virus.

I've seen similiar symptoms on a PC and it turned out to be a virus. Although theirs would spike upto 90% for like a minute and go back down for a little while.. but unless you were watching the CPU usage window it was slow the "whole time" you used it.

Ctrl+Alt+Del to get to Task Manager. Kill tasks using a lot of CPU. Then download SpyBot, update it, run it. Then do the same with Adaware. Update & run them weekly.

Good luck.

I am having a similar problem but my 100% CPU usage occurs when I am using windows media player or real player with "large" mpegs about 200Mb. I am not sure when this started but b4 i was only downloading 20-40Mb video clips now i moved to larger ones. I have a 2GHz processor with 512 SDDR Ram. What can I do? After loading the 1st or 2nd video and closing each one, I begin to experience the phenomenon>>>>slow loading of the 3rd and subsequent clips?? Help plz. I scanned for viruses and none were there.
