Comment: Could someone clarify for me; whenever I attach a Word document to a webpage for people to read, the document always opens as read only (assuming the person is viewing directly from the web page as opposed to having saved the document to their PC and then opened it). Do documents always open as read only, or is there a way to make them open straight from the web page so they can be edited ? thanks for any guidance on this.....

Reply: (edit)They always open as read only, due to inherent security issues. To enable them to be edited would allow access to the server (a newbie hackers' dream-come-true). Please let us know if you found someone's advice to be helpful.

Reply: (edit)Well, there are ways to do what you want. Sharepoint is a web-based document repository. With that application, I can open a document from the web interface, make changes, and save the changes back to the online document. I'm not suggesting you use that, unless you have a ton of maney for licensing. But, it proves that it can be done. So the solution you are looking for is possible - you just may have to dig a little deeper. Michael J
