OK, I downloaded a couple of MIDIs one day (18,000) just to have them... and now I want to make a website with them... but there's a problem, I downloaded these songs with AmiPic Share Master, which is a mass-download program, and I don't even know which sites I downloaded them from, neither who actually made them... my question is, would I be breaking any laws with this? Reply: (edit)If they are copyrighted, then you could be subject to different penalties depending upon where you live. Most likely you would be given a monetary penalty. I have never heard of anyone going to jail for sharing copyrighted works unless they did it for profit. To determine if they are copyrighted or not would probably require you to research each file! You are most certainly violating copyright regs. unless you obtain permission from each author of those 18,000 files. Will you go to jail? Probably not. Will you be sued? Probably not, unless you're making a profit off of these files, or won't remove them when asked. But nonetheless, it is copyright violation.

Reply: (edit)wow that is a lot of files. i started my own little midi site that didnt really get much where i made my own midi files of my favourite songs. if any of these were obtained by you which is probably quite rare i would have no problem with you hosting them My Website

Reply: (edit)There would not be any trouble, IMO, unless your site became just HUGELY popular....like that creepy dancing baby thing a few years ago. And that's HIGHLY unlikely, with all the midi sites around today. But, in the highly unlikely event that did happen...if anyone really was gonna go hardball, the most they'd initially do is send a "cease and desist" letter. Then, only if you continued would it get worse.
