Anyody heard of this new domain called "Websit.ws". Its described as the new .com ......investing into it before the .com's run out.
anybody heard of this and is it legit??Kye

All of the two letter domains were reserved for countries. For example .us is reserved for the United Stated, .ca is canada, etc. These domains are the property of those countries.
So the .ws domain is most likely a country domain that was bought out by a company looking to resell it or is being resold by the country itself. This happened with the .tv domain. It was originally intended for the island nation of Tuvalu. But anyone can buy the domian from many different registrars - however it costs a premium.
A quick check of .ws shows that it is assigned to Samoa (an island territory of the US) which was formerly referred to as Western Samoa (e.g. the ws).
Even though there was a pretty big marketing campaign for the tv domain when it was released for public purchase, there was very little adoption and I don't know of any major sites that use it. I expect the same to occur with the ws domain. But, that's just my opinion.

Hey M.J.
thanks for the info. I've been hearing some of the same elsewhere, I just needed a confirmation. So thanks again this info was very helpful.

I personally believe that this whole domain name thing is coming to an end.
I had wanted the site www.t4b.com, but as i wasn't willing to pay more than £100 for it, i satisfied my self with www.tm4b.com and i am sure that George Bush would satisfy himself with G-Bush.com or gbush.com or whatever else would save him $50,000 (if you get what i mean!!!)

I'd suggest that *.ws is most certainly not going to "be the next .com". The best possible TLD you can have is COM because it's what a huge majority of people think of first when trying a webpage. NET and ORG are the next best bet. US or CO.UK are further down and should probably be avoided if possible unless it's something you want.
TLDs such as TV, NAME, INFO, etc are the most likely to lose visitors due to mis-remembering the name. The flipside is that these are much more open than the older COM and NET TLDs.
As a side note, there are some interesting TLDs that as Michael said were for specific countries that sold them. CC for example was for the Cocoa Islands, but were sold so that the public can register them.
