Hi,
I've seen posts at computing.net about having problems with websites and the Proxy Settings. Well I have the same problem and I don't know how to fix it so I wondered if you could help me....
My site is www.popgal.net and it wont open in my area unless I check off all checkmarks in the Internet Options >> Connections >> Lan Settings >> AUTOMATICLY DETECT SETTINGS. I don't know how to fix it because in my area nobody can view the website when you type "www.popgal.net" but if you type it without the "WWW" like http://popgal.net it works......Something is with proxt settings...but how come MY WEBSITE isn't working and everyone else's is....I just wannamake it work..please help
I am really confused and lost hehe
If you could help me It would be highly appreciated Thanx
Miki

Domain name servers and network recognition. When a domain is registered and set up on the Domain Name Server, it should be done with and without the www. prefix so both are recognised.
Many sites respond the way you see yours doing, that is, they will work fine without the www., but with it they "don't exist". To be honest, this is down to bad server setup and recognition by the internet routers, and not an issue with your computer.
You could write to your ISP and ask if there is any reason their end causing this anomaly. As far as your own site is concerned, why not email your hosts and see if they have a configuration problem?
Apart from this, there isn't much you can do, except try without the www. in the address bar where this occurs.

On some hosts, the www is just a subdomain. (ie forums.computing.net), so if you can set up a subdomain, call it www and point it to the root directory. This will give the desired effect regardless of ISP or server configuration.
