You don't actually buy a website name when you start a website. You pay a fee that can be monthly or yearly to register a name. If you later decide that you don't want the name anymore and quit paying the registration fee, the name becomes available again to someone else if they want it. That being said, I like using a website called Netfirms, www.netfirms.com ,to set-up websites. They offer a lot of options when getting webspace and can set you up with the web name as well.

Hi,
As Randy says, you can register any name not already taken.
Some registrars will host it for you free.
But if your purpose is to put up your CV and have people find it, a better option might be to find a site that puts CVs on file for those in your specialty.
