I'm looking for a script that has the ability to back up websites like archive.org does, just for sites that i specify. Basically I want to be able to type in a URL, and this script downloads the website from the remote server, and caches it on my own website, so I can view it later.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Your question is not really clear. Are you wanting something to back up or to create an offline copy? those are two entirely different things. You state that you want to cache it on your own website - I don't know what you mean by that.

Backing up a website would require that you have FTP access to the website. Obviously if this isn't your site you won't have access to the raw files. If this is your own website, then there are plenty of tools out there that can do this. but you would need to enter the FTP address, username, and password.

To create an offline copy will create a static set of files of the website. Don't know how good these tools are as I've never used them. Here is one tool: http://www.bluesquirrel.com/product...

It does make sense (a little :-)

But maybe you're looking for a proxy server?

Or, what if you just direct httrack to save its archived pages in your web server?

Yes, but i want to be able to type in a URL, and for it to archive the site. So maybe a script that controls httrack for it to back up a site on command, but a web interface for it.

Maybe i can clarify this a little more:
I goto my website.

There is a text box where it asks for a URL to archive / back up.

I type in the URL and it makes an archive of it viewable from -MY- site.

How's that sound?

Ok clear enough.

There is a text box where it asks for a URL to archive / back up.

I type in the URL and it makes an archive of it viewable from -MY- site.,

In that case, you do need to combine httrack's capability with a (web) serverside script.

httrack can be run from the command line, so basically you can use (in php) system() or exec() to send instructions to httrack.

I don't think there's a ready-made "web application" to do that.
