I use www.assortedinternet.com for webhosting. Their bottom level sites start at about $6 per month. That includes 50mb space, CGI, perl, php - just about anything except database and Java/JSP. For $10/month you can get a database. They are also very good at customer support. They also have a $25/YEAR 10mb plan.

Once you signup for your webhosting service, don't buy your domain name from them unless you check out www.godaddy.com first. I haven't seen anyone with cheaper prices than godaddy. Once you buy the domain name, getting it pointed to your webhosted site is easy. If you've never done that before, now is as good a time as any to learn how. Post here and someone will give directions or email me.

You might find cheaper webhosting services, but I'd look for recommendations before using them. There are a TON of really bad webhosting services. It may be worth a few dollars a month to get a good one.

Amen to all Don's advice...Particularly the part about registering it yourself instead of with the host. Even if the host does it for free, it is worth the $8.00 to have control over your domain name.

I personally use hostforweb.com's reseller program, but they have some lower plans as well.

If I didn't have as many domains as I do, I would have tried powweb.com...Loads of space, bandwidth, perl, php, and mySQL databases for $8/month. I don't know anybody who has tried it, but it seems to be a reputable company.

Don's right that there are tons of particularly bad hosts out there...Check the better business bureau and look for recommendations from some of your peers.

You can research potential web hosts at

http://webhostingtalk.com/

I found a really good host there. You can do a search on any host you are considering and see what comes up, good or bad.
