i made a file and i called it favicon.ico and it wont show up in my server, it is also in the root directory.
my quesrion, is there anything else that i have to do that i havent done already to get this thing to work?
im thinking it might be something with my computer because on that page they give the link http://sourceforge.net and it doesnt show an icon for me when i go there but on that other computing.net website they said it has one. if that is the case, could someone tell me what i could do?

I think you need
<link rel="SHORTCUT ICON" href="favicon.ico">
in the head section of your document for bookmark icons to work.

Yes, Sourceforge favicon works for me :)).
I guess you use IE. Just click on the IE symbol and hold it than *shake* it a little bit ;)) than release it. It should work now. I dont know if it is a bug of IE or not.
Just test with Firefox (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/) or Opera (http://www.opera.com). It should work.

well i made one of these righty after i remembered about them and mine doesnt work. im guessing its because of the size, mine is 32x32 and the one on sourceforge is 16x16. however, i have no idea how to make them, i just steal them off of diff progs.
anyway, does anyone know an easy way of creating these things? (checking fireworks, seeing if you can make them in there)
