Hi, recently started my own vbulletin forum which can be found at www.thegoldguild.com/forum.
Now the problem is a lot of people have told me that when they visit the link nothing comes up apart from the godaddy ads and a '‹' character. The forum works fine for me and others have said it displays fine. Im trying to figure out why the forum is not displaying for some visitors and what I can do to solve this. Any help is appreciated. Thanks :)

I have tried contacting my hosting provider (godaddy) but they said they cannot help me as it is third party software :/

Well, I get the same thing. Since it works for some and not others and I can see from the code produced that it is NOT an issue with CSS/display properties, then the problem exists int he code somewhere.

The fact that it displays OK for you and not me would indicate that the code "knows" the difference between us. I am guessing that at some point you registered and logged into the forum. It probably saved a cookie to your machine. So, when you access the forum it identifies you by the cookie and somewher in the code it is failing for people who are not logged in. Try deleting you cookies to see if it still works for you.

Yep, deleting the cookies/cache was the first thing I tried actually. But it still turns up for me, and it also comes up for some people visiting my site on their machines for the first time. Which makes it even more confusing :S

Well, you will need to go through the code then to figure out what is happening. I'm not sure what your experience level is, but this may help. This is the code that is produced when I acceess your site (only the '‹' is displayed, but this is what is delivered by the web server).

‹</object></layer></span></div></table></body></html>
<script language='javascript' src='https://a12.alphagodaddy.com/hosting_ads/gd01.js'></script>

As you can see it looks like it is just writing all the tags that would exist at the end of the page.

phpBB, smf, etc, are better than a cracked vB. phpBB 3 although still in beta stage, IMO is very prosperous. Test

Also (about using an unlicensed forum app), when they finds out, they'll do anything they could to sue you, or at least to shut the site down.

Sorry if you actually bought the licence, but if you do then just ask them for support :D

I contacted Vbulletin they said its most likely a problem with godaddy. I've upgraded my hosting now and it should work. Michael J can you confirm?

Yes, it woeks for me now. I'm curious - what "feature" of the upgrade was responsible for the fix?

It was being hosted on Godaddy's free ad supported hosting plan, which had the exact same features as the 250GB plan but with ads, so I thought I might as well use it. Little did I know that the ads wouldn't be able to appear alongside my forum, so it basically disabled the whole forum from showing. Thanks for your time MJ.
