I would like to set up computer to work as a server
for testing sites. I have a Mac running MacOSX
10.3.3 with Dreamweaver and I want a second
machine for a testing server.

I need to be put on the right path...

1.
What would be best to run on a PC, Windows
2000, Windows XP pro or is there something
more suitable?

2.
What software do I need to run on a server if I'm
aming to do a dynamic page web page with a
'User Login' and 'User regitration'? and what
server type is best for this
ie. PHP, JSP, ASPJavaScript... etc

Any guideance is most welcome!!

either windows 2000 or XP would be suitable for your needs or even windows server 2003, but i wouldn't recommend that. i would suggest running either of those OS's and then installing the Apache web server with which you can install MySQL and PHP. you could always go and download each on individually and install / configure them yourself (i tried this but i'm lazy so i found another solution). or you could just install EasyPHP which i first heard about on this forum. the site is www.easyphp.org and the current version will install and configure for you Apache 1.3.27 - PHP 4.3.3 - MySQL 4.0.15 - PhpMyAdmin 2.5.3

i have it installed and it works quite nice :)
also, with WinXP Pro, IIS 5.0 comes with it so you could just pop in the disk, add the software for it and your all good there. but thats not as simple as EasyPHP.

hope this helps :)
