some buttons and labels missing on webpages

Specs: Windows XP
When surfing, some "buttons" and some labels are missing on web pages. For instance in my "Blockbuster" Que. There is a button to press that says "rent it now!" the label is missing and the check box does'nt appear. I know the button is there from looking at the site a while ago. If I scroll over the area, my pointer goes to the hand symbol & I can click the invisible button to complete the request. On some sites when I scroll over the clear spot the text appears in the lower left corner of the screen. I've tried changing VIEW, page style & character encode to no avail.

If you have another browser to try, it would be helpful to know if the problem is happening in different browsers. Another thing to check may be to look at the page source and see if the image files for the buttons are possibly on a different website that my be getting blocked locally or via a proxy. (Try loading the img file by itself in a different browser tab to make sure you have access to it...)
